THE WORD OF GOD

We believe the 66 books of the Bible are the only inspired, inerrant, authoritative Word of God.  The Bible was inspired by the Holy Spirit and it has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

Creation

We believe that God created the heavens and the earth, including all life, by direct act.  We believe that man was created directly by, and in the image of God.

THE TRINITY

We believe in one God revealed and manifested in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

GOD, THE FATHER

We believe that there is one living and true God who has revealed himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and who is worthy of all possible honor, worship, and praise. As Creator, Redeemer, and Ruler of heaven and earth, he is inexpressibly glorious in holiness and love.

Jesus

We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return for His church and with His church in power and glory.

Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit to be the third person of the Trinity whose purpose in the redemption of man is to convict him of sin, regenerate the repentant believer, guide the believer into understanding the Holy Scriptures, and to indwell and give gifts to believers as He wills, that they might minister as Christ would to men.

Mankind

Although mankind was created in the image of God, we fell into sin and became lost; this is true of all humans, and except a person be born again by the Holy Spirit, they cannot see the Kingdom of God.

Salvation

We believe that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. Salvation is God’s free gift to us and we must respond to the Holy Spirit’s drawing and surrender our hearts and lives. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. It requires repentance of sins and confession of Jesus as Lord.

Ordinances

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has committed two ordinances to the local church: water baptism and the Lord’s supper.  We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water into the name of the triune God.  Water baptism is a symbol of the cleansing power of the blood and a testimony to our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 2:38). It is the ordinance that symbolizes our entering the New Covenant relationship. We believe that the Lord’s Supper was instituted as an act of remembrance of the saving work of Jesus Christ on the cross (1 Cor. 11:23-26).  We believe that these two ordinances should be observed and administered until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Church Government

We have a mixed form of church polity at UCC. We have tried to take the different models gleaned from the Scripture and form what we can surmise is the most biblical method of church government. We are congregational in the sense that the memebers of the church have the final say in matters. However the Elders and Deacons govern the day to day aspects of the church. All ordained ministers that are currently on staff make up the Elders and they along with the Deacons are all voted on by the congregation. This form of government is clearly seen in Acts 6 where the Apostles asked the disciples (church body) to go and find what we consider today deacons. So we are congregationalist, representative, single elder, and plural elder led! The point is God is in control, and every person in the church has a place in governing as long as God is at the center.
